Authorities in Marshall County say that 13-year-old Corey Brown of Marshalltown apparently died from a fall after leaving his home late last Tuesday. Brown's body was found late Sunday morning.

The Marshalltown Police Department has revealed that the State Medical Examiner performed an autopsy Tuesday and that the preliminary results show Brown "suffered a significant head injury and died because of a blunt force trauma injury." Marshalltown Police say their investigation determined Corey climbed over a secure fence into a tower site along West Iowa Avenue in Marshalltown. He then climbed a communication tower before falling an unknown distance. The traumatic head injury was a result of the fall.

The results of the autopsy won't be final until routine toxicology testing results are complete. That will take between six and eight weeks.

The release from Marshalltown Police states "the Brown family requests everyone honor and respect their privacy... The family is not accepting requests for interviews and do not wish to make a public statement at this time."

We offer our condolences to the family for the tragic loss of their beloved son.
