Plan on Having a Campfire This Weekend? Remember: We’re in a Drought
With the holiday weekend upon us, many of us will embark on a quick camping trip, or possibly sit around a campfire to enjoy the late-summer weather. But remember: it is extremely dry across the state and it won't take much for a fire to get out of control.
Many communities around the state have enacted a 'Burn Ban' due to the ongoing drought.
According to Drought.gov; 82% of Iowa's population is in an area considered to be in a drought, nearly 2.5 million residents.
Currently the Iowa Grassland Fire Danger Index has listed most of the state, including Black Hawk County, in the 'Low' category. But that doesn't mean a fire won't easily spread if not kept under control.
Campfires are meant to be sat around and enjoyed so you can keep an eye on it. – don’t leave it unattended.
