You’ve Been Warned: These are Videos of Allegedly Haunted Places in Iowa
There's a good chance you enjoy Halloween. It's a fun time of the year. Here in Iowa, it's truly the epidemy of fall. It gets dark earlier, it's colder and, the leaves are all (most always) changed over by Halloween. To add a little more "spook" to the air, I wanted to share videos of the most haunted attractions in Iowa. Some are open to the public. Others you may only ever see here. Let's get started!
The Villisca Ax Murder House
A story that made national headlines, the terrible Villisca ax murders happened sometime during the evening of June 9, 1912, and the early the next morning, June 10, 1912. They happened, as the name implies, in the town of Villisca, Iowa. In total, eight victims were killed during that time. Horrifyingly enough, that includes six children. All of the dead had severe head wounds from an ax. What's almost as bad, the killer got away with it. No one was ever found guilty of these heinous killings. Want to look inside the house?
The Edinburgh Manor
A more recent addition to this list, the Edinburgh Manor was built between 1910 and 1911 and was designed to house the incurably insane, the poor, and the elderly. Edinburgh Manor, also simply called The Manor, was in operation until November 2010. So again, its history is not as old as many other haunted places in Iowa. The home saw over 150 deaths on site and hence, it's likely quite haunted.
Check out a couple of videos of the building inside and out. Note the little announcer/MC for the first video is pretty precious.
Apollo High School in Burlington Iowa
So this one is a bit out of left field. It's not that old schools cannot be haunted, it's more this isn't on any official "haunted Iowa" lists, but I think it's worth your time. According to a Reddit thread, the school was opened in 1908 and was in use all the way to 2001 when it was phased out in favor of a newer facility. Think of all the history. All the kids who passed through this school. All the teachers, faculty, and administrators.
There you go some Iowa haunted locations, inside and out! Have a happy and safe Halloween!
