Marshalltown police are investigating the death of a woman, whose body was discovered in a farm field behind a retail store.

Authorities said preliminary information suggests the victim may be Michelle Grommet of Mason City, a 32-year-old woman who was reported missing to Marshalltown police on March 22. A positive identity, however, couldn't immediately be confirmed.

The body was found shortly after 9 AM Monday in a field in the 2800 block of South Center Street (Iowa Highway 14), just east of Walmart. There is no evidence or information known to investigators that suggest foul play in the case, Marshalltown Police Chief Michael Tupper said in a news release. The manner and cause of death won't be known until an autospy is completed.

Marshalltown police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the discovery of the body and Grommet's disappearance. Marshall County sheriff’s officials and Mason City police are also assisting.
