Waterloo Has A Drive-In…For Now
The temporary drive-in theater that's been so talked about is officially up and running. This project, aptly named Reels and Wheels, was approved by the National Cattle Congress and got signed off on by the Waterloo Board of Adjustments in late April.
As previously reported, a special permit has been granted to the organizers of the project. It will allow for the property to be used for this specific purpose until December of 2024. At that time, the project and the success of this theater will be evaluated.
An inflatable drive-in theater screen is now up and ready to go at the National Cattle Congress. The very first show was scheduled for June 26th, but due to severe weather in the forecast during that weekend, the premiere was pushed to July 2nd.
During the fourth of July weekend, not only offered audiences two evenings of double features but also after the show, there was a special light show.
Local vendors will be providing show snacks and other food during the show. Each show is scheduled tentatively at 9:45 PM.
How Do I Get Tickets?
It's pretty easy to get tickets to these shows. You can't pay ahead of time nor can you purchase tickets online. Payments can only be made "at the door" with cash or a card. It costs $30 per car, so everyone in the vehicle is covered.
No need to sneak anyone through in the trunk...
That ticket is good for a double feature for everyone in the vehicle. The next few shows for the weekend of July 9th are a double feature of The Lion King & Back To The Future and another feature with Jurassic Park & the Goonies.
Where Is It?
Located at 257 Ansborough Ave 50701, the theater is right in the heart of the National Cattle Congress. According to their, website, "You'll take "Ansborough Ave and just as you get to the address you'll turn on "Courier street" which is directly across from the National Cattle Congress. Courier St. is a dirt road that will take you to the drive-in pay station and then onto the drive-in site."
When you drive in to see the show, you'll see signs to help direct you. You can sit in and outside of your vehicle, so blankets and lawn chairs are allowed at this fun family event.
You can check out the National Cattle Congress calendar to see all of the show dates right here.
