Small Town Iowa: World’s Smallest Church-Ft. Atkinson [Photos]
As the weather warms up, it's time to hit the road once again and explore "Small Town Iowa". A couple months ago, we found out that Independence Is Known For This Unique Attraction. Once you've stopped by that "flashback in time", you can start checking out our list of the World's Largest Things all located in our state. While you're crossing things off your Iowa "bucket list", coincidentally, we're also home to the World's Smallest Church.
Our "Small Town Iowa" series continues now with a look at St. Anthony of Padua Chapel. Its official address is listed at 1120 Little Church Road, about 5 miles southeast of Fort Atkinson. However, it's actually closer to the unincorporated community of Festina. Located in Winneshiek County, it's about one hour and ten minutes northeast of the Cedar Valley.
The tiny church sits a "hop and a skip" away south of the Turkey River, and make sure not to miss the "Smallest Church Park" just up the road a short distance on the other side of the river. When you're done inside the church, take a walk and check out the statues, log cabin and cemetery also located on the grounds. (scroll down for photos)
If you can't make it there this spring or summer, scroll down for more information and a photo gallery of this unique "Small Town Iowa" attraction.
