Popular Waterloo Breakfast Restaurant Closes

If you are a fan of having 24-hour coffee and pie options, you will now have to find a new place to go as of this weekend. The Perkins Restaurant and Bakery on University Avenue closed its doors Sunday morning.

A manager at the Hammond Avenue Perkins was able to confirm the University Avenue location was closing, also revealing the University Perkins was a corporate operation - while the Hammond Perkins is a franchised Perkins. The Hammond Avenue location will not be closing.

Perkins has been in financial trouble for quite a while, but in 2019, Perkins & Marie Callender's, LLC announced it would close 10 Perkins locations and 19 Marie Callender's locations nationwide as the company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company would divest the remaining Perkins locations to Huddle House, Inc. It appears as though additional stores are or will be closing in 2020 as evidenced by the University location shutting its doors.
