Mom Rushes To Rescue 5-Year-Old Attacked By Raccoon While Waiting For School Bus

Ashford, Connecticut - A mother came to her daughter's rescue when an angry raccoon started attacking her 5-year-old.

On December 2nd, A 5-year-old girl was attacked by an aggressive raccoon while waiting for the school bus outside her home in Ashford, Connecticut.

The home surveillance camera captured the scary moment of young Rylee who getting bitten by the wild animal.

Rylee stepped outside the house to wait for the bus and the raccoon was sitting on the porch.

The raccoon quickly latched onto Rylee's leg and clung on tight. Rylee screamed and tried to shake the animal off.

Rylee's mother, Logan MacNamara heard the screaming outside and rushed to help her daughter. When she saw the raccoon she grabbed onto it by the scruff of its neck and removed it from her daughter's leg.

Once her daughter ran inside, she threw the wild raccoon into her yard, and went back into the house.

"I heard her screaming and ran to see what was going on. I thought maybe she slammed her hand in the door, I was not expecting to see a raccoon attacking her," MacNamara said. "If I didn't have the video I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what happened, it all happened so fast."

Rylee has a few puncture wounds, and both she and her mom have scratches, but they are doing ok. Logan said Rylee, who normally wears leggings, was wearing jeans, and she believes this helped prevent her from being more seriously injured.

MacNamara confirmed they did go to the hospital, and said the doctor's main concern was rabies as the raccoon was out during the day, and very aggressive, both signs of the viral disease according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Though they've not been able to find the raccoon to test it for rabies, she said they will be receiving rabies vaccines over the coming weeks.
