The Major League Baseball playoffs were expanded for the 2020 season and as a result, the first few days of the playoff schedule looks more like the regular season. Sixteen teams will start play in eight different Wild Card Series, almost half the field from the Midwest and four from one division.

The four teams from a single division are from the National League (N.L.) Central where the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cincinnati Reds are all in the National League field of eight.

The Cubs, winners of the N.L. Central, are the third seed in the National League. The Cubs will host the entire series against the sixth seed, Miami Marlins, beginning Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. on ABC. It's the Marlins, who suffered through a coronavirus outbreak at the start of the season, first trip to the playoffs in 17 years. Games two and three, if necessary, would be played Thursday and Friday. Game times for only the first game in all series have been announced.

The Cardinals, who finished second in the division, are the number five seed. St. Louis, which also suffered through a coronavirus outbreak early in the season, clinched a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season. They'll travel to San Diego to play a series against the fourth-seeded Padres. Game one is Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. on ESPN 2. Thursday's game time hasn't been revealed.

The Cincinnati Reds are the seventh seed and will travel to Atlanta to play the second-seed Braves in a best-of-three series. Game one is Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. on ESPN. The Reds haven't won a playoff series in 25 years.

The Milwaukee Brewers made the N.L. field, despite a sub-.500 record. Milwaukee finished the regular season at 29-31. The eight seed, they visited the number one seed, Los Angeles. The Dodgers finished the regular season at 43-17... by far the best mark in the National League. Game one is Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on ESPN.

In the American League (A.L.), the Minnesota Twins will be one of the teams that begins the 2020 playoffs. The Twins won the A.L. Central and are the three seed. They'll host sixth-seeded Houston Astros at 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis. It will be televised by ABC.

The Cleveland Indians are the number four seed and will visit Yankee Stadium to play New York. The Yankees are the number five seed. Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN.

The Chicago White Sox are the seventh seed in the American League. They'll visit the second seed Oakland A's, who won the American League West. The best-of-three series begins Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. on ESPN.
