An Oelwein man has been accused of setting a house fire in Independence, that put two people in the hospital.

Independence fire crews responded to a blaze at a local residence around 11:30 PM Saturday.

Two people were injured in the fire. The victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their names and conditions have not yet been released,.

Authorities arrested Shane Heins, 44, of Oelwein, on a charge of first-degree arson, for allegedly starting the house fire. The arrest was made Sunday after the Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation officers executed a search warrant at 218 3rd Ave. NW in Oelwein.

No other information on the blaze, including the extent of damages to the home and the manner in which the fire was started, were available.
