2021-22 Iowa High School Boys Basketball Rankings – Poll 1
Four teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are featured in the first Iowa high school boys basketball rankings of the season released by the Associated Press Monday afternoon.
Aplington-Parkersburg is the highest rated squad from the region, rated No. 2 in Class 2A. The Falcons (2-0) opened their season with a pair of impressive wins, beating Oelwein, 82-29, on Nov. 30 and Grundy Center, 79-57, Friday night.
Coach Aaron Thomas' team has three starters back from a 2020-21 team that advanced to the state semifinals and finished the season 22-4.
Aplington-Parkersburg's top competitor in the new North Iowa Cedar League Central Division is expected to be Denver. The Cyclones (3-0) are ranked one spot behind the Falcons at No. 3.
Other rated teams from the region are: Janesville (No. 4 in Class 1A), Cedar Falls (No. 7 in Class 4A) and Waterloo West (No. 10 in Class 4A).
