Four teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are featured in the first Iowa high school boys basketball rankings of the season released by the Associated Press Monday afternoon.

Aplington-Parkersburg is the highest rated squad from the region, rated No. 2 in Class 2A. The Falcons (2-0) opened their season with a pair of impressive wins, beating Oelwein, 82-29, on Nov. 30 and Grundy Center, 79-57, Friday night.

Coach Aaron Thomas' team has three starters back from a 2020-21 team that advanced to the state semifinals and finished the season 22-4.

Aplington-Parkersburg's top competitor in the new North Iowa Cedar League Central Division is expected to be Denver. The Cyclones (3-0) are ranked one spot behind the Falcons at No. 3.

Other rated teams from the region are: Janesville (No. 4 in Class 1A), Cedar Falls (No. 7 in Class 4A) and Waterloo West (No. 10 in Class 4A).

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
