A small Northeast Iowa food truck might just have the best cheese curds in the whole state!

Over the weekend, I worked a grand opening event at American Freight in Waterloo. As part of the grand opening, they had a food truck stationed out front that I had never heard of before. It was called Boyd's, and the truck had a photo on the side of it that read, "Voted Best Curds in Northeast Iowa." Obviously I had to put that claim to the test.

I've eaten a LOT of cheese curds since moving to Iowa almost nine years ago, but I can confidently say that the ones from Boyd's are the best I've ever had. They were made-to-order, so when I got them they were fresh and hot and messy and magical. Even though I was incredibly full because I had just left an event where I had to sample 15 different chilis, I still ate almost all of them. They were so good that I just couldn't resist.

Boyd's is a food trailer out of Fairbank, Iowa that travels all throughout the Northeast portion of the state. There was also a Boyd's Bar in Fairbank, but it closed back in February of 2023. In addition to delicious curds, the food truck also serves tenderloins, burgers, brats, pulled pork, and more. You can follow the Boyd's food trailer on Facebook HERE.

When it comes to cheese curds, who serves your favorite here in Iowa? I've had some really good ones from stands at several area county fairs (as you can see below), but I'm also a big fan of the fresh, non-fried gouda curds from Frisian Farms out of Leighton. Let us know who has your favorite by shooting us a message on our app!
