It's a difficult time for many businesses big and small. Sadly, those farmers who feed us and the nation haven't had it any easier. Recently, according to the Des Moines Register, an unnamed Iowa egg operation announced they were closing down. This was set to result in the euthanization of 1,000 hens.

That was until a California animal rescue group called Animal Place stepped in. Landing a large cargo plane in Fort Dodge, the animals were loaded into 60 crates and sent flying to a California to an animal sanctuary near Sacramento. There the hens will rehabilitated and eventually adopted out to people throughout California looking for chickens.

While the total cost of the operation was said to be tens of thousands of dollars, Animal Place was not charged for the hens and says much of the money came through fundraising. The cost of the flight and use aircraft was also covered through a donation.
