Where Does Iowa Rank Among the “Funnest” States in America?
If you think it's boring here, don't go to West Virginia!
WalletHub took its annual look at "The Most Fun States in America" and here in Iowa, we placed...somewhere below the middle.
WalletHub compared the 50 states across 26 key indicators of a jolly good time that won’t break the bank. They range from movie costs to accessibility of national parks to casinos per capita
In 2 of those key metrics, Iowa actually did pretty well. Let's just say we like movies and golf, having the 4th-most movie theaters and 2nd-most golf courses and country clubs per capita in the nation in the survey.
For nightlife, we came in 18th, with a ranking of 38th for "recreation and entertainment."
So, before we check out the overall Top and Bottom 5, let's see how our midwest neighbors did:
- Illinois (5)
- Minnesota (9)
- Missouri (16)
- Wisconsin (18)
- Nebraska (36...it's comforting that once again, we're better than Nebraska).
Iowa's overall ranking? 33rd!
Without further ado, the bottom, and Top 5 "most fun states. The top 2 are shockers, let me tell you!
Most fun
- 1. California
- 2. Florida
- 3. Nevada (people just love those darn casinos!)
- 4. New York
- 5. Illinois
Least fun
- 50. West Virginia
- 49. Mississippi
- 48. Delaware
- 47. Rhode Island
- 46. Arkansas
I find it odd that one of the things they include on a list of things that make a state "fun" is a category for most fitness centers per capita. But in California and Florida, it's a way of life, as they and New York have the Top 3 in that category. (To tell you how much I go to the gym or need to, I almost said New York was "sandwiched" in between California and Florida).
