Waterloo Police Sergeant’s Funeral Set For Friday
Funeral arrangements are set for a Waterloo police officer who died unexpectedly over the weekend. Sergeant Robert Greenlee III will receive full law enforcement honors when he's laid to rest on Friday (April 20, 2018).
Visitation for Greenlee is planned from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Prairie Lakes Church, 1907 Viking Road, in Cedar Falls. The funeral service will also be held at the church on Friday, beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial takes place at Waterloo Cemetery, 1830 Kimball Ave., immediately following the service.
Locke Funeral Home, 1519 W. 4th St., is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert J. Greenlee III Memorial Fund at any Veridian Credit Union branch.
Greenlee, 45, was found dead at his home on Sunday. The cause of death has not been released, but Waterloo police said Monday that foul play was not suspected.
Sergeant Greenlee was a 24-year Waterloo police veteran. He joined the force in January 1994 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August of 2005.
Waterloo police are expecting a large procession for the funeral service and grave site ceremony on Friday. Authorities are cautioning that the heavy traffic will create increased delays for motorists traveling along -- and in the area of -- the procession route between 11 AM and 2 PM. During that time frame, officials are asking drivers to utilize alternate routes if possible.
According to Waterloo police, the funeral procession will take the following route between Prairie Lakes Church and Waterloo Cemetery:
- Hudson Road
- U.S. Highway 20 / Iowa Highway 27
- Ansborough Ave.
- San Marnan Dr.
- Kimball Ave.
