Waterloo Man Injured In Fiery I-380 Crash
A Waterloo man is recovering from injuries after his truck slammed into another vehicle, drove through a concrete wall and caught fire on Tuesday (Aug. 30, 2018).
The accident happened around 9 AM in the southbound lanes of Interstate 380 near the McCoy Road overpass in Evansdale.
An Iowa State Patrol accident report said the crash occurred when a gravel truck, driven by Christopher Timmer, 46, crossed the median of the interstate and entered oncoming traffic. Authorities said the truck collided with a northbound pickup and went into a ditch, while hitting a guardrail and concrete barrier. The truck then caught fire.
A couple of witnesses to the accident were able to pull Timmer out of the burning truck, authorities said.
Timmer and the other driver -- identified as Richard Burke, 49, of Lock Ridge -- were both taken to a Waterloo hospital for treatment. Officials did not specify the extent of their injuries.
The crash backed-up traffic for several miles on the interstate.
