The Fayette County Sheriff has now filed charges in connection with a recent assault involving a teacher and a student at the Starmont School. The sheriff then filed Assault charges on 49 year old Anita Ann Smith of Edgewood, a Starmont School employee. Radio Iowa reports the teacher has been accused of biting a 16-year old student. According to the report, the incident left a red mark, bruising, and even teeth marks on the student.

Smith told investigators that she was role-playing when the incident occurred. As a result of the accusation, she was placed on administrative leave at the school, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to enter a plea to the assault charge.

The incident happened March 16, but was not reported to authorities until March 19 (Friday). The school had to finish the Level One investigation before it was handed over to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office for a criminal investigation.
