University Avenue Meeting Taking Place In Waterloo
The future of University Ave. will be the focus of a public meeting in Waterloo tonight (Tuesday, March 21, 2017).
City officials are hosting the first of several planned meetings to gather input on the proposed reconstruction of the six-lane corridor from U.S. Highway 63 to Midway Dr., which borders neighboring Cedar Falls. Waterloo city leaders are encouraging all interested persons to attend the meeting and express their opinions on the project.
The 90-minute, public input meeting is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. in the Schoitz Room at the Waterloo Center For The Arts, 225 Commercial St. According to city officials, engineers will make a brief presentation at 6 p.m.
The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) agreed to transfer jurisdiction of the former U.S. Highway 218 thoroughfare to Waterloo last year, when the city council voted to accept the state's $28 million offer. The money will be used by the city to rebuild the 2.83-mile segment of University Ave.
Waterloo city leaders want feedback from the public before the project is designed.
