UNI Football Lands Another Big Transfer, Former FBS Corner
Less than two weeks ago, we shared that UNI football landed yet another transfer in Eastern Illinois running back Harrison Bey-Buie.
The Panthers have remained active in the transfer portal all summer, and they've made it clear they're willing to add talent from all over the country in order to get better.
One of the latest additions to the Northern Iowa roster is defensive back from Western Kentucky, Miguel Edwards.
A once highly-touted recruit from Deerfield Beach, Florida, Edwards started his collegiate football career with Oklahoma in 2018. He played in four games as a freshman with the Sooners, registering five tackles.
He returned to Norman in 2019, played one game, and then announced his transfer to Independence Community College.
Though he spent a year at Independence CC, the school didn't have a football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He then transferred to WKU and played his first full college football season with the Hilltoppers.
Over the 12 games he played in that season, the redshirt sophomore registered 38 tackles, two interceptions, and four pass breakups.
He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Before you see for yourself, know that the kid can play. He's got great instincts, an eye for the ball, and is willing to make tackles in the open field despite being a smaller DB at 5'11 and 175 pounds.
Highlights:
Out of high school, Edwards was ranked a four-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals and had scholarship offers from FBS schools all over the country. Schools like Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Miami (FL), Utah, and Kentucky offered Edwards before he chose Oklahoma.
Other transfers UNI will add to the roster this fall include the following:
Peter Udoibok, WR Minnesota
Peni Naulu, LB Washington State
Harrison Bey-Buie, RB Eastern Illinois
Damien Crumitie, DB Western Illinois
Takulve Williams, LB Kansas
Johnathan Phenix, DB Northern Arizona
