A gigantic swarm of ladybugs in California was so big it showed up on weather radar as an 80-mile-wide mass.

The San Diego branch of the National Weather Service said that it was "a cloud of lady bugs."  It covered an area of more than 1,000 square miles in total.

This phenomena is known as a "bloom."
