Steve Prohm is out as the men's head basketball coach at Iowa State. The university made the announcement on Monday night after a meeting between Prohm and athletic director Jamie Pollard.

The Gazette reports that Prohm had an up and down career at Iowa State. He finished with a record of 97-95 in six seasons in Ames. The good? Well, he lead Iowa State to two Big 12 Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances. He coached many NBA draft picks, including six former Cyclones who are still in the league today.

But now, the not so good. Prohm also had three teams finish below the .500 mark, including three of his last four teams, according to the Gazette. And this last season was probably the worst in the history of Iowa State basketball. An overall record of 2-22. 0-19 in Big 12 conference play. It marked just the second time in school history the team failed to win a conference game. They also suffered the longest losing streak ever, at 18 games in a row.

To his credit, Prohm knew that his job this year was in danger. He called the teams record "unacceptable" several times over the course of the season. When asked if he'd be back next season, he said that it wasn't up to him. In the end, it wasn't. There was no mention of a contract buyout in the news release from Iowa State. The Gazette reports that Prohm's contract ran through 2025 and he may be owed up to $5 million.

Athletic Director Jamie Pollard released the following statement on the decision to let Prohm go.
