Come Saturday, September 5th, Waterloo will have a new independent bookstore called the "Soul Book Nook."

According to KWWL, the "Soul Book Nook" will open this weekend and could be the first African-American owned independent bookstore in Iowa. The store will allow a getaway for people to have a quiet space to get lost in books. The owner, Amber Collins, has a goal to provide more books for African Americans written by African Americans to give them a look at seeing themselves in a positive and empowering way in the books.

The Soul Book Nook will be practicing social distancing guidelines in order to stay open by requiring patrons to wear masks and gloves upon entering the store. The store will also be stocking the shelves in multiple ways with one including donations. However before shelving the books will be cleaned and quarantined for 24 hours before being available. According to owner Collins, there will be a book there for everyone.
