
Rare November Tornado in Iowa
The National Weather Service in Des Moines says a brief tornado occurred near Guthrie Center on Saturday around 4:05 p.m. The last time a tornado occurred this late in a calendar year in Iowa was an EF-2 on December 4, 2017 in the extreme SE corner of the state.
Since 1980, just 46 tornadoes have hit Iowa’s surface in November, according to data recorded by the National Weather Service through 2018.
According to the National Weather Service this is the 50th tornado in Iowa in 2019. The state averages right around 50 tornadoes per year.
