Popular Eastern Iowa Hotdog Stand Is Closing Up Shop In July
It's sad to see businesses close but when the owner, or owners, can close on their own terms to start a new chapter, it makes it feel a little bit better to write the story. If you've been to Clinton and asked where to get a quick bite to eat, chances are Holly's Dogs was one of the first places people have told you to go.
In the middle of the summer when most of us are still grilling up hotdogs or eating them dipped and battered on a stick, Holly's Dogs will be closing up shop forever after 13 years of building an incredible business. That's right, you still have time to enjoy Holly's Dogs a few more times or for the first time ever.
Holly's Dogs In Clinton Is Closing Soon
On Monday, owner Holly Rowden of Holly's Dogs in Clinton announced that she has made the decision to close the doors of Holly’s Dogs on July 26, 2024. Rowden announced the news on social media and shared a lot of gratitude, how making this decision wasn't easy, and the reason Holly's Dogs will no longer continue.
"Running a restaurant has its challenges, with time being one of the biggest sacrifices. Yet, amidst the struggles, the support of this community has been a guiding light," Rowden said on the Holly's Dogs Facebook page. "I am proud to have been part of your lives, sharing not just meals but moments with your families."
Rowden said the reason she is closing Holly's Dogs at 614 South 2nd Street in Clinton, along with her famous food chart you can find on the Clinton Riverfront in the summer, is because she has taken a new job at Clinton High School. She will start as the Foods and Consumer Science Teacher at Clinton High School starting in August saying, "This opportunity feels like a natural progression, blending my passion for food with a newfound purpose in education."
Holly's decision to make this shift wasn’t easy she said. Multiple conversations with loved ones and reflections on the past years led her to the decisions and she feels confident it is the right one. With only a month left to go before Rowden closes Holly's Dogs, she wants the community that has supported her to know how grateful she is.
"As we enter this final chapter together, I want you to know that serving this community has truly been my greatest joy," said Rowden. "Your unwavering support, loyalty, and trust in Holly’s Dogs have not gone unnoticed, and I am forever grateful for each and every one of you."
Those who have hot dog cart obligations that have already been booked with Holly's Dogs do not need to worry. Rowden said she will be honoring those commitments.
