The Federal Aviation Administration has been called in to investigate the crash of a small airplane in Northeast Iowa.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office first got the report of the accident at about 8am Thursday (Feb. 25), located at the intersection of Pumpkin Ridge Road and Omega Road, east of Millville.

An initial investigation determined that the accident happened Wednesday afternoon at about 4pm. The pilot of a single-engine Cessna was trying to make an emergency landing on Omega Road, when it went through the intersection and collided with a snow bank, overturning end over end, coming to rest in a nearby field.

The pilot, 44 year old Joseph Bolton of Peosta, and his passenger, 43 year old Eric Harbaugh of Russell, Kansas, sustained only minor injuries.

The crash was reported to the FAA, which will investigate the cause. They are being assisted by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.
