Over 3″ Hail Near Des Moines

Around 5:30 Tuesday evening, hail as large as baseballs were reported near the Des Moines International Airport, check out these photos:

A lot of rain fell in the area, too:

Over 4" fell near Center Point, Grinnell, Independence, and areas around Hopkinton. The Waterloo airport reported 1.65".

Des Moines had 3.59" of rain on Tuesday. This breaks the old daily record of 1.57" set in 1883.
