Recent heavy rainfall has increased the threat for flooding in the Cedar Valley.

The National Weather Service has posted a flood warning for the Cedar River at Cedar Falls until early Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 4, 2018). Minor flooding is expected.

At 5:45 AM Sunday, the stage was 87.2 feet, or .8 feet below flood stage.

The river is expected to reach its 88-foot flood stage by midday Sunday and continue rising to 89.0 feet after midnight, before cresting. The Cedar is forecast to fall below flood stage Tuesday afternoon.

According to Black Hawk County Conservation officials, the rising river has forced the closure of Black Hawk Park at the northwest edge of Cedar Falls until further notice.
