When one business closes, another one opens!

Late last year, the restaurant El Bajio 2 in Cedar Rapids announced on social media that they would be closing their doors permanently on November 10th. The Mexican restaurant had opened at 1140 Blairs Ferry Road NE (near Target) in September of 2022, but after a little over a year in business, they decided to focus on their original location at 555 Gateway Place SW.

In early February, real estate group GLD Commercial revealed on Facebook that a new Mexican restaurant would be moving into the former home of El Bajio 2. It's called Mextizo, and the folks behind the new eatery already run a few others in Eastern Iowa. The post reads:

"With a combined 20 years of restaurant experience, the owners of Porfirio's Mexican Restaurant (Anamosa), Cafe Tacuba (Cedar Rapids) and Tequilero (Vinton) are bringing their culinary delights to you via MEXTIZO at 1140 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids."

We don't know much about Mextizo just yet, but the post from GLD Commercial says that it's set to open sometime this month. Facebook comments from one of the owners Oswaldo Aguirre promise that they will begin welcoming customers "very soon." In the meantime, here are a couple of sneak peek photos to give future customers a look inside the new restaurant (check out a video HERE):

When Mextizo announces their official opening date, we will be sure to let you know! You can also get the latest updates by following the new Mexican restaurant on their Facebook page HERE.
