You know THAT iconic theme song...

Thank you for being a friend,

Travel down the road and back again!

Growing up, one of my favorite things to do was switch the channel over to TV Land and watch 'The Golden Girls.'

If you're like me and love these four older women living together in Miami; and you've also wondered what a modern episode of the sitcom would look like, then look no further.

'Golden Girls-The Laughs Continue!'

On February 28th, the Paramount Theater hosted this touring show. Four actors dress in Golden Girls drag and pay homage to these beloved and iconic characters.

Without giving TOO much away, here's the synopsis of the play;

"It’s 2023, and we find Sophia out on bail, after being busted by the DEA for running a drug ring for retirees. Blanche and Rose have founded Creak-N, a thriving dating app for seniors."

It has become such a huge hit in every single town the traveling tour stops in.

Honest Thoughts on the Show

From start to finish, these actors knew exactly what they were doing. They weren't trying to recreate performances that were already perfected by the likes of Betty White or Bea Arthur.

They were trying to pay tribute to the laughs and fun this television program has created for generations of viewers.

Each actor that took to the stage toed the line perfectly between a satiric recreation of these characters and a silly celebration of the 'Golden Girls' legacy.

If you are a diehard fan of the original series (and even the one season spinoff 'The Golden Palace') you'll crack up during the entire hour and forty minute show. You'll notice familiar jokes from the tv show incorporated seamlessly into the production.

Plus, they managed to find humorous ways to make this show its own entity.

One of my favorite things about this show was the way it brought fans together. I saw people dressed to the nines. Some people were dressed like their favorite Golden Girl and others were rocking some great t-shirts with with the characters across the front.

My co-worker/friend Heather and I ended up wearing matching t-shirts to this Cedar Rapids performance.

By the way...she made them herself!

Right before the curtain came up, the show's theme song was playing on the speakers. The entire crowd at the Paramount Theater sang the iconic tune together!

Such a great experience!

The only warning I would give to anyone interested in seeing this show, is that they say it's recommended for people 18+ for a reason. While the original tv show was never squeaky clean, this production takes some freedoms on the stage that the original ladies couldn't take on network tv.

It's a bit naughty and definitely meant for adults!
