Fayette County authorities have charged a man with kidnapping in connection with a sexual assault incident involving two young girls that allegedly occurred earlier this month.

Wilmer Soy, 19, of Postville, was taken into custody on Thursday (June 21, 2018). An investigation revealed that Soy picked up two 13-year-old girls in the 100 block of E. Bradford St. in West Union on June 4, sheriff's officials said. According to authorities, Soy did not notify the girls' parents before picking them up.

Soy is accused of driving the girls to a rural area in the county, where he allegedly sexually assaulted them. The girls were returned to West Union the same day, authorities said.

Deputies have charged Soy with first-degree kidnapping. He's being held in the Fayette County jail in West Union on $250,000 bond. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison without any chance for parole.

According to authorities, the girls and their families are being assisted by the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Response Team (DASART), which has resources to help them through the process.

Winneshiek County sheriff's officials assisted in the investigation.
