There are many different things that make this world go round, and that includes our essential workers. Our front line workers, especially during the height of this pandemic, are risking their lives to make sure our society continues as normally and safely as possible.

Throughout the country, the specific definition for what an essential or front line worker is can differ. Some states adhere to the federal guidance for classifying these workers while others have created their own, and some states don't even have any guidance for this type of classification.

Something that we can all agree on is that there are a whole lot of hard-working people here in Iowa. One of those hard-working groups is truck drivers. One politician wants to officially classify these drivers as essential workers.

It seems odd to want to classify them as such this late in the pandemic, but Congresswoman Ashley Hinson wants to make sure that truckers get the COVID vaccine as soon as possible.

U.S. Representative Hinson is urging that these truck drivers move up in line for their shots. She says that they are such an integral part of the supply chain, and if one driver were to test positive for the virus that could upset many of the local industries.

This proves difficult to implement, according to some state officials due to the limited supply of shots. These officials indicated that only those employees who can't maintain social distance at their place of work are to be included at the moment.
