Iowa State's Top 10 Hoops Recruiting Class Gets Huge Addition [WA

The continued building of Iowa State men's basketball by coach T.J. Otzelberger just got a very big addition.

Otzelberger, who has a combined record of 41-27 in two years as head coach of the Cyclones, has the 10th-ranked 2023 recruiting class according to Rivals. I should say he did because that number will be even better after an announcement Friday morning. Iowa State has revealed that a 2024 Iowa State commit has reclassified and will join the team this fall.

J.T. Rock, a 7'1" 245-pounder from Sioux Falls, was the South Dakota AA Player of the Year this past season. According to Iowa State, he averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.5 blocked shots per game. A 4-star recruit, Rock was ranked in the Top 100 of the 2024 recruiting class by ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports.

Coach Otzelberger said, “We are thrilled that JT decided to join our 2023 recruiting class. He’s a high-character young man that prides himself on doing the right thing. The offensive skill set that he possesses is truly unique for someone north of 7 feet tall. He will be someone Cyclone fans love watching for years to come.”

When Rock joins the Cyclones this fall, he will become the eighth player in Iowa State history at least seven-feet tall. Rock joins an Iowa State recruiting class that includes 6'8" Omaha Biliew of Waukee, Iowa, 6'6" Kayden Fish from Missouri, 6'5" Jelani Hamilton of Georgia, and 6'8" Milan Momcilovic from Wisconsin.

Iowa State opens the 2023-24 season at Hilton Coliseum in Ames on Monday, November 6, against Green Bay.
