The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has announced that state park campgrounds will open this weekend (May 4-6, 2018).

The weather is predicted to be beautiful this weekend, so why not celebrate "Camping Kick-Off" at one of the great Iowa State Parks. Some of the state parks in northeast Iowa have planned special events.

Many state parks will be hosting programs and activities for the entire family! Take part in kayaking clinics, fish demonstrations, volunteer projects, special hikes and much more. All visitors are welcome to attend even those who aren't camping.

Back Bone State Park (Dundee, Iowa) will hold a Fun Run on Saturday, May 5 (9:00 AM). The Volga River State Recreation Area (Fayette, Iowa) is planning a Morel Mushroom Hunt on Saturday. A volunteer clean-up event is scheduled for Sunday at Pine Lake State Park (Eldora, Iowa). And there are several other events planned this weekend all across the state. Campers can reserve their camping spot through Wednesday May 2 online. After Wednesday, sites for the weekend are walk-in only on a first-come, first-serve basis for any sites not already reserved.
