It was a season of “firsts” for the Iowa State football program. Their nine wins the 2020 matches the most in school history. The Cyclones ended the year with their first appearance in a New Year's Six bowl game. As Iowa State defeated Oregon 34-17 in the Fiesta Bowl. Then to top things off, ISU finished 10th in the final college football playoff rankings.

Of course, with all of that success, your head coach is going to start turning heads in the professional ranks. Plus, this is the time of the year for NFL coaches to get fired, no less than seven have been shown the door so far. Should Iowa State fans be nervous about Matt Campbell leaving for the pros? In a story reported by Hawkeye Insider, (yes, ISU fans, even the Iowa football media is keeping an eye on you, lol) the website mentioned that Fox's Jay Glazer mentioned Campbell as a top college name to watch. There were conflicting reports on Saturday trying to connect Campbell to an interview with the New York Jets.

As far as Glazer goes, sometimes I think these commentators just "throw some stuff up against the wall and see if it sticks" and then it happens he can say "I called it". That not to say, that Campbell isn't a heck of coach. Because, (and this is coming from an Iowa fan, so it's hard to say) I think he's a GREAT coach and a perfect fit for Iowa State.

I would have to say, when he states the "our foundation has been built on loyalty", it would be hard for him turn leave the program. Especially now, when he's just getting things started. There's plenty of reason for optimism for the fall 2021 season as well, with quarterback Brock Purdy, star running back Breece Hall and stud tight end Charlie Kolar all returning to the line-up. Now, we patiently wait for the fall season to arrive in 8 months, and mark Saturday, September 11th on your calendar, when the Iowa Hawkeyes travel to Ames. Hopefully, that game will get to be played with 61,500 roaring fans in attendance.
