The Iowa State Fair kicked off yesterday but it didn't go without a hitch.

The giant slide ride at the fair was shut down for part of the day yesterday after some riders were hurt on it.

KCCI reports that the kids were hurt when they were coming off the slide, as their video shows. The kids landed hard due to what the fair says was a fresh coat of wax on the slide and new burlap bags. If you watch the video, there's a fence near the base of the slide.

A parent of two kids that were hurt, Lindsey Richard, spoke to KCCI about it:

He went over a hump and flew off his mat, so I had to run up there and take him down and my daughter also flipped over too on the ride.

The slide has reopened after operators removed some of the wax so hopefully, all of the hard landings are done for this year.

The Iowa State Fair runs through August 21st in Des Moines.

In what feels like a reflection of the times, we told you earlier this week that Hy-Vee announced that they're set up out there this year with a vaccination clinic, providing pneumonia, shingles, and COVID vaccines. Festive.

To be honest with you, I'm still recovering from my first MVF, so I'm kind of "fair-ed" out but if you're planning on going out to the Iowa State Fair, you can get tickets here. You can check out the fair's schedule here.
