Iowa COVID Update: When to Expect the Vaccine

As the pandemic continues into the holiday season, there were 2,245 new confirmed cases from in Iowa on December 10, from the previous day according to the state's dashboard. The state's website says that of the 251,027 people who have tested positive, 177,798 of them have now recovered. The good news is this is over 4,350 more recoveries than the states report from yesterday.

Yesterday, Governor Reynolds said her press conference that she believes Iowans will start receiving the vaccine as early as December 28, which is the Monday following Christmas. The governor also stated the state will prioritizing health care workers and care facility residents for the initial rounds of Pfizer vaccine, meaning most will not qualify to receive the vaccine until sometime in 2021. Finally, KCCI reports Iowa will provide each of the state’s 432 long-term care facilities with personal protective equipment for 30 days at no additional cost.
