If you've been hoping Iowa's football team could eventually make it to the sport's "Final 4", the college football national championship playoff, keep hoping because they still have to play their way in. But this news is good for bragging rights, at least.

University of Iowa athletic director Gary Barta has been named Chairman of the College Football Playoff Committee.

2020 will be his second season as a member of the group who helps to determine the playoff picture, and he takes over as chairman from Oregon athletic director Rob Mullins.

In a report from CBS2, Barta was quoted as saying, "I had a terrific experience my first year on the committee. I have so much respect for the other committee members, and for Bill Hancock and the CFP staff. I'm honored to be asked to serve as committee chair and look forward to working with this group again in 2020."

His appointment as head of the selection committee only goes so far, as Iowa still has to play like a team worthy of being one of those put in the playoff field. But if they do, how cool would it be to have their own AD help put them over the top?
