Fugitive Surrenders After Standoff In Evansdale
A two-hour standoff with several law enforcement agencies in Evansdale continues to be under investigation.
The incident started around 6 AM Monday (July 9, 2018) when Evansdale police received a tip about a possible wanted fugitive, who may be armed, in a house in the 300 block of Norma Ave.
Responding officers looked through one of the home's windows and spotted Jason Back sitting on a couch. Evansdale Police Chief Jeff Jensen said authorities had been looking for Back for about six months. Also, there were rumors that Back was armed with a weapon.
Authorities surrounded the home, and got a search warrant. The Black Hawk County TAC team was then summoned.
Back, 44, refused to exit the house, resulting in a standoff. At about 8 AM, officers tossed tear gas into the home. Back surrendered peacefully a short time later and was taken into custody.
No one was injured. Charges may be pending, Jensen said.
