A former Dunkerton police chief faces a possible prison sentence for falsifying her time card and collecting unearned pay while working for the city.

Katherine Krieger, 25, of Jesup, pleaded guilty to second-degree theft and felonious misconduct charges Monday in Black Hawk County District. She turned herself into authorities on June 27, 2019, after authorities issued a warrant for her arrest.

Court records show that Krieger was placed on leave in May 2019 after suspicions surfaced that she misreported and misrepresented her time worked while leading Dunkerton’s police force. She was also accused of tampering with records.

Krieger allegedly received around $3,000 for training and meetings she never attended.

Dunkerton city leaders asked Black Hawk County sheriff’s officials to investigate Krieger after the allegations against her surfaced. Information gathered during the investigation was then turned over to the Black Hawk County Attorney's Office, which prosecuted the case.

Krieger will be sentenced on the two charges at a later date. According to court records, the tampering charges will be dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
