Authorities have filed charges against Dunkerton’s police chief following a criminal investigation into allegations that she falsified her time card.

Katherine Krieger, 25, of Jesup, was arrested Thursday morning on the following charges: felonious misconduct in office, second-degree theft, and four counts of tampering with records. She was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail.

Sheriff’s officials said Krieger turned herself into authorities after warrants were issued for her arrest.

Records show Krieger was placed on leave in May after suspicions surfaced that she misreported and misrepresented her time worked while leading Dunkerton’s police force. Sheriff’s officials said they were asked to investigate the allegations by Dunkerton city leaders.

In a news release, sheriff’s officials said their investigation revealed that Krieger “violated Iowa law in various ways on numerous occasions.” Authorities indicated their findings were based on a number of credible corroborating sources (witnesses), other documentation, and corroborating evidence.

The case has been turned over to the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office.
