While there are some who may already be sick of the sudden commercialization of a sacred classic, last Thursday night's Major League Baseball (MLB) game at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville proved "if you build it, they will come", and it's been confirmed that they will again next year.

According to the Des Moines Register MLB has selected its two teams for next season's event.

An Iconic Midwest team takes on another classic National League opponent

With rumors circulating since the home-run-laden game last week, numerous outlets have confirmed, including NBC Chicago who first reported it, the Chicago Cubs will indeed play in Dyersville next year, against the Cincinnati Reds.

According to the Register, the game is set for August 11, 2022. They need to iron out a few more details and legalities as of yet, but multiple sources all but confirm it's a done deal. The 2021 game was everything fans hoped it would be and more, starting with a touching tribute to the classic film with its leading man, Kevin Costner taking the field for an emotional speech, along with Iowa's American Idol Maddie Poppe singing the national anthem, followed by a thrilling game from start to finish. With experience under their belt, we can only imagine how much better next year's festivities might be.

Other "Field of Dreams" news came Monday, too

Perhaps it was inevitable between the renewed interest in the movie, and the site apparently becoming an annual host to a regular-season game, that a small-screen adaptation would follow.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Peacock streaming network has signed "Parks & Recreation" and "The Office" writer and showrunner Mike Schur to do those honors again. Schur will also executive produce the show with "The Good Place'" producers David Miner, Morgan Sackett, and Lawrence Gordon (who cut their teeth producing the "Field of Dreams" movie back in the day). Not much else is known about the series at this time, but it will be a drama and we will be sure to keep you posted as more details are unveiled.
