Eastern Iowa City Named One Of The Best Places To Rent
The struggles of finding an apartment or place to rent are real. I've rented apartments from 2014 to 2021. Finding roommates, finding a place that is affordable but not a dump, and trying not to think that every month your rent is really money going down the toilet. Renting can be hard but some places are better for renters than others. A new study has revealed that an eastern Iowa city has been named one of the best places for renters.
Our friends at WalletHub wanted to find out the best and worst places to rent in the country. In order to determine the best local rental markets, WalletHub compared 182 cities, including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state, across two key dimensions:
- Rental Market & Affordability
- Quality of Life
For some reason, the Quad Cities weren't included in this (probably because we have 5 cities). It's probably because WalletHub considers only the city proper and excludes cities in the surrounding metro area. Makes sense I guess.
WalletHub then evaluated those two dimensions using 22 relevant metrics, did some math, and came up with each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate their overall score.
After finding each cities' overall score, they ranked each city from best to worst and this is their official list:
What eastern Iowa town is one of the best places to rent? Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Cedar Rapids had an overall score of 63.86. In Rental Market & Affordability, Cedar Rapids ranked 5th. In Quality of Life, Cedar Rapids ranked 43rd.
Cedar Rapids also has the highest rental affordability, with the lowest median annual gross rent divided by median annual household income at 15.73%, which is 2.5 times lower than in Hialeah, Florida, the city with the lowest at 40.04 percent.
If you're looking for a really good place to rent, consider Cedar Rapids. As a person who has rented in Davenport, I can tell you prices here really aren't that bad. It's really just finding the right location.
