Dave Chappelle Will Visit Des Moines To Screen New Documentary

Comedian Dave Chappelle has announced that he will personally appear at a screening of his new documentary 'Untitled' in 10 U.S. cities. On Monday, it was announced that Des Moines, Iowa would be one of those stops.

Chappelle recently released a Netflix special called 'The Closer' that has been the source of much controversy the past several weeks. Despite that, the comedian will make a stop in Des Moines on November 9th at Wells Fargo Arena for a screening of his 'Untitled' documentary, according to the Des Moines Register. The film focuses on Chappelle during the year 2020, dealing with the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, and also dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. It then shows Chappelle in a series of performances with celebrity guests in a neighbors cornfield in his hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio. The tour will kick off on November 4th in San Franciso.

Chappelle's appearance comes amid controversy over remarks that have been described as transphobic from his recent Netflix special 'The Closer', according to The Register. After Netflix suspended three employees for attending an unauthorized meeting to voice their concerns and fired one for leaking the price that Netflix paid for the special, employees staged a massive walkout, demanding accountability. The Register reports that Chappelle was willing to meet with employees, but that the comedian "stands by his art".

As a result of the ongoing tensions, security will be high during his upcoming appearances. Hy-Veetix.com says that no cellphones, cameras, or recording devices will be allowed at the show. All phones and smartwatches will be secured upon arrival and then released at the end of the show.
