Cedar Valley Brewer Brings Home Medals from Beer Festival
Remember the old nursery school rhyme, "Ring around the rosie, a pocket full of medals?". Well, that's not exactly how it goes, but, Singlespeed Brewing Company did draw some acclamation at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) for its beer "Ring Around The Gose" (pronounced GO-zuh).
A few years ago when SingleSpeed Brewing Co. decided to renovate and move into the historic Wonder Bread building in downtown Waterloo, who knew, at that point, that they would start turning out award-winning beer?
According to a press release, Singlespeed was recently recognized with a Gold Medal in the Contemporary Gose beer-style category for "Ring Around the Gose", a passionfruit and pink guava-infused sour ale. This is the second time they have received recognition for this beer, as it is currently the reigning World Beer Cup Bronze Medalist as well. If you're wondering, what is a Gose beer? It's a warm fermented beer that originated in Goslar, Germany. It's an acquired taste of lemon sourness, herbs, and a strong saltiness.
It's not the first time Singlespeed Brewing has won awards
SingleSpeed also took home a Bronze medal in the Session Beer beer-style category for "Tip the Calf", a low ABV (alcohol by volume) take on their year-round cocoa espresso milk stout (and this author's favorite) "Tip the Cow". This is also the second time they have received recognition for this one, as it took home GABF Gold in 2020.
“It’s great to once again see our team recognized for their efforts. The number one Gose, and number three Session Beer in the entire country, that kind of recognition doesn’t land by chance. These awards reflect the time and energy they dedicate when crafting every beer in our lineup, not just this pair. I could not be more proud of our team. " said SingleSpeed founder Dave Morgan .
Choose from SingleSpeed Brewing's wide variety of beers including one of their award-winning beers at one of their two locations in the Cedar Valley, 325 Commercial St. in Waterloo, or 128 Main Street in Cedar Falls. Prost!
