Kids truly do have the biggest hearts. We saw another example of that this week as a group of elementary schoolers from Cedar Rapids gathered to help feed those affected by the tornados in the south.

According to KCRG, elementary students at St. Pius school in Cedar Rapids teamed up with Take Away Hunger to provide food where there's a major need. That need is currently in the south where tornados devasted the area. In partnership with the program, the students packaged meals for those in need.

The week leading up to the event, the students raised almost $2,600 to help with supplies. This week was all about packing them up to be delivered to families in need. Along with every boxed meal, the kids also made special cards that they put in each box. A sentiment that would melt anyone's heart.

It's nice seeing kids give back to those in need. Especially since it wasn't that long ago families right here in our area were in need after the derecho in August of 2020. It's a full-circle moment for some.

The effect of tornado damage is something we know well here in Iowa. Just this week we've seen some rough storms tear through the state. And last month, several Iowa families were devasted by tornados. Half of a family was killed by a tornado in Winterset (see how the survivors are doing now), and another man died saving his wife from the storm. Such tragic circumstances. It makes these young childrens' acts of kindness for other tornado victims in the country that much more special.
