The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating an outbreak of Listeria that has been linked to Dole packaged salads, according to KWWL.

The outbreak has sickened people in 13 states, including Iowa, resulting in 13 hospitalizations and the deaths of 2 people. The recall began back at the end of December 2021 and is for products with 'Best if Used by' dates from November 30, 2021, through January 9, 2022. The packages also have codes in the upper right hand of the packaging that begin with the letter B, N, W. or Y.

KWWL reports that while all the recalled products are produced by Dole, they are sold under the following brand names: Ahold, Dole, HEB, Kroger, Lidl, Little Salad Bar, Marketside, Naturally Better, Nature's Promise, President's Choice, and Simply Nature. The CDC recommends that people throw away or return any of these products.

Officials also say that it is important to not only throw away potentially contaminated bags, but to wash and clean out refrigerators or any other surface that may have come into contact with the product. CDC officials say that Listeria can survive inside refrigerators and easily spread to other foods and surfaces.
