C.R. Business Employees Hospitalized, Elevated Carbon Monoxide

As reported by KWWL, a business in Cedar Rapids saw up to 22 employees hospitalized, as it was later discovered the building had elevated levels of carbon monoxide.

Just after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, carbon monoxide alarms went off at NFI Interactive Logistics,  3110 Prairie Valley Ct. SW in Cedar Rapids. The building is home to a large warehouse and several offices, where at the time, employees had been reportedly feeling sick.

Crews found increased levels of carbon monoxide after firefighters ensured the building was evacuated. The 22 people were taken to area hospitals as a precaution and after assessment and treatment, no deaths or serious injuries were reported. In addition to the 22 transported to the hospital, other NFI employees were checked and treated for possible carbon monoxide exposure by fire crews and ambulance services on-site.

CRFD and MidAmerican Energy crews worked to ventilate the area to remove the carbon monoxide from the structure.

The cause of the increase in CO levels is unknown at this time, and according to CBS2, the incident is still under investigation.
