ORIGINAL STORY 4/7:
Downtown Cedar Rapids will soon be home to an "eclectic" new bar and restaurant!
Back in mid-March, a new Facebook page popped up for a place called SKO Tavern & Tacos. Located at 203 1st Ave SE, right across from the Alliant Energy Powerhouse, the new business is taking over the space that was once Della Viti Wine Lounge. Della Viti relocated to the NewBo area back in 2019, but ended up closing permanently in the spring of 2020.
SKO Tavern & Tacos is described on Facebook as "a great blend of reasonably priced, yet upscale drinks and food in an eclectic, relaxed and fun environment." The bar's manager Demian Papagni informed me that the bar will serve a variety of tacos, but the main focus will be the "extensive" drink menu. He also mentioned margarita flights!
SKO isn't welcoming customers just yet, as they are still in the hiring process, but we do have a sneak peek look inside the bar. The photos show TVs, games, and even swinging seats! Here's a look inside the new business:
There is no official opening date for SKO Tavern & Tacos, but they hope to open sometime within the next two to three weeks. It'll be nice to have another place to hangout before big events at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse! For the latest updates from the bar, you can follow the Facebook page HERE.
