An Eastern Iowa Island Could Be Yours For $1.5 Million
You don't have to be on the coast to own an island.
You may think Iowa is totally void of any kind of islands, that we have no such luck with anything like that here. But according to a real estate listing on Remax, you'd be wrong.
In our neck of the woods (or river), right outside of Muscatine, there's an island- yes, an island- that's for sale.
It's not the Grand Caymans or any kind of tropical resort getaway but how cool would it be to actually own an island?
Welcome To Towhead Island
Sure it's not a tropical backdrop, but for a $1.5 million price tag, it could be yours. The listing says it's 129 acres, 30 miles downstream from the QC. It's pitched as being a good place for sportsmen, fishermen and hunters, and recreational boaters. There's one area of it's that's currently leased to a barge company for tying off barges.
The island is split into 2 parts and has beaches (not that kind of beach), opportunities to "harvest timber", and there's a shallow lake on the island.
The island was initially listed back in December. Maybe it's a good getaway if you literally just can't stand people and would rather hang out in the middle of the Mississippi River?
Hey, it's the closest thing we have to a tropical getaway in Iowa.
What I can't find is how low the island sets to determine how much it might flood if the river gets as high as it did in 2019 or 2023. But the island is just below Lock & Dam 16.
If you're ready to get an island, you can check out the real estate listing for it.
