Clermont Man Arrested For Making Counterfeit Money

Fayette County authorities have arrested a northeast Iowa man, during an investigation into a counterfeit money making operation in Clermont.

Following a 2-week investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff executed a search warrant at 1009 State Street in Clermont. Counterfeit bills in various denominations were seized, including bills of $5, 10, 20 and $50, all having matching serial numbers.

During the search, officers discovered the counterfeit money lab, which included several computers and printers, scanners, special paper, pre-paid credit cards, thousands of dollars in phony money, as well as documentation of the ongoing criminal activity.

Officers also confiscated illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

As a result, 33 year old Jason Massman of Clermont was taken into custody on charges of Ongoing criminal conduct, Falsifying public documents, Forgery, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Massman is being held in the Fayette County Jail, waiting for his initial court appearance.

The sheriff notes that the counterfeit money could surface in other counties in northeast Iowa.

The investigation continues, and more arrests and charges are possible.
